The scenario presented the following situation:

“A woman, who knows you personally, phones you at the laboratory and asks you for the laboratory test results belonging to her husband. How would you proceed?”

Participants were asked to select one response from the following options:

A. You give the hard copy of the test results to her

B. You give the results to her verbally, but not the hard copy

C. You do not give her the test results and suggest she contact his physician

D. You call her husband for permission to release the results and give her the test results


  1. Communication is restricted to “authorized recipients” which means that information can only be shared with those who have a right and responsibility to know.
