- E. nana is distributed worldwide and is considered non-pathogenic. It is found in warm, moist climates and tends to be less resistant to desiccation than Entamoeba coli.
- Recent studies have shown B. hominis, in heavy infections, may cause periodic, mild to moderate diarrhea and intestinal discomfort in children.
