Educational Highlights

  • Strongyloides stercoralis is primarily detected by stool examination where first-stage rhabditiform larvae can be seen.
  • In immunocompromised people, strongyloidiasis can result in fulminant hyperinfection which consists in uncontrolled over-proliferation of larvae with dissemination to end organs, including the lungs, liver, and brain.
