MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from MY2204-3
- Matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) has been proven to be an optimal method for rapid identification of yeast belonging to the genus Exophiala.
- Pulmonary infections with Exophiala spp. are frequently associated with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) or immunodeficiency. Prevalence of E. dermatitidis in CF patients range from 1% to 20%.
