Skin scraping: Trichophyton verrucosum – Shipped November 22, 2021
HISTORY
This challenge was sent as simulated skin scrapings from a cattle farmer with face and neck infection. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Trichophyton verrucosum.

- T. verrucosum is a zoophilic fungus causing ringworm in cattle. Infection in humans result from direct contact with cattle or infected fomites and vary widely from non-inflammatory, scaling plaques to inflammatory pustules.
- Identification of infection due to T. verrucosum and its differentiation from bacterial infections are important for prompt treatment of patients and cattle to prevent their spread in the community.
