HISTORY

This challenge was sent as a simulated vaginal swab from a patient with recurrent vaginitis. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Candida tropicalis.

  • Although Candida albicans remains the dominant species responsible for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis, effective treatment measures are best if species-specific.
  • Susceptibility testing may not routinely be performed as this is a non-invasive specimen type
