HISTORY
This challenge was sent as a simulated skin biopsy sample. La-boratories were expected to isolate and identify Rhinocladiella species.

- Etiological agents of Chromoblastomycosis (CBM) grow slowly on standard mycology media and velvety and pigmented colonies which are initially deep green in color and later become black.
- Chromoblastomycosis is a chronic, progressive cutaneous and subcutaneous disorder characterized by nodular and verrucous skin lesions. The main agents responsible for its etiology are Fonsecaea species, Cladophialophora carrionii, Phialophora verrucosa, and Rhinocladiella aquaspersa.
