Wound: Vibrio vulnificus – Shipped May 11, 2020 – FINAL RESULT

HISTORY

A simulated wound swab sample collected from a 36 year old male traveler with foot injury was sent to category A laboratories.
Participants were expected to isolate and identify Vibrio vulnificus and perform susceptibility testing.

  1. Vibrio vulnificus is a pathogen that can cause infection in wounds exposed to salt/brackish water.
  2. V. vulnificus can cause aggressive infection that can develop into life threatening sepsis in some patients.
