MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from M183-3
- NAATs are the preferred assays for detection because of increased sensitivity while retaining specificity in low-prevalence populations.
- Culture should be performed for antimicrobial sensitivity testing in patients with persisting infection, symptoms following treatment or if treatment failure is suspected.
