Stool: Shigella sonnei – Shipped November 2014
The challenge was sent to category A and B laboratories. The sample was a simulated stool obtained from a 41 year old male patient with diarrhea; the patient was a traveler returning from Cuba.
Participants were expected to isolate and report Shigella sonnei, perform and report susceptibilities, and report the isolate to Public Health (PH) authorities.

- Shigella sonnei accounted for the majority of Shigella identifications with two thirds of the isolations, followed mainly by S. flexneri.
