Educational Highlights

  • Diphyllobothriosis is associated with eating raw, under-cooked, or under-smoked fish that contains the intermediate stage of the parasite.
  • Because identification to the species level is not possible based on egg morphology, laboratories should report as Diphyllobothrium species unless molecular techniques are used for species identification.
