This challenge was sent as a simulated skin sample from a patient with abdominal rash. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

  • Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. interdigitale is an anthropophilic fungus distributed world-wide. It is a common cause of tinea pedis, particularly the vesicular type, tinea corporis, and sometimes superficial nail plate invasion
