MY1908-2

Skin: Microsporum audouinii – Shipped August 26, 2019 – FINAL RESULTS

HISTORY

This challenge was sent as a simulated skin sample from a patient with skin rash. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Microsporon
audouinii.

MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from MY1908-2

  • This was an atypical strain as it sporulated lots of microconidia; this is uncommon for this organism.
  • Recognizing this organism as a dermatophyte and referring it to a reference laboratory is the correct response when unable to correctly
    identify it.
