This challenge was sent as a simulated central line. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Candida albicans and perform susceptibility testing.

  • The most frequently implicated risk factors for candidemia include the use of broad-spectrum antibacterial agents, use of central venous cath-eters.
  • Invasive candidiasis has a significant impact on patient out-comes, and it has been estimated that the attributable mortality of invasive candidiasis is between 10% -25%.
