A simulated stool sample collected from an 8 year old boy with 2 day history of diarrhea was sent to category A laboratories.

MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from M202-2

  1. Yersinia enterocolitica remains an important agent of foodborne gastroenteritis, and should be identified and notified to relevant public health authorities when present.
  2. While antimicrobial therapy may not be routinely needed, there are limited antimicrobial options.
