Stool: Salmonella enterica  – Shipped August 13, 2018

HISTORY

A simulated stool sample collected from 6 year old male with bloody stool was sent to category A laboratories.  Participants were expected to isolate and report the presence of Salmonella enterica and report these findings to Public Health authorities

 

MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from M182-3

  1. Prompt reporting and referral of Salmonella isolates for serotyping is critical for surveillance and to trace outbreaks.
  2. Salmonellosis is a notifiable disease in all provinces and territories of Canada with cases reported to provincial/territorial departments of health.
