Wound: Escherichia coli – Shipped February 13, 2018 –
HISTORY
A simulated wound collected from 32 year old with Crohn’s disease and abdominal wound was sent to category A and B laboratories.
Participants were expected to identify Escherichia coli report susceptibility testing, and re-port to infection control (IC).
MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from M174-3
- Identification of ESBL –producing Enterobacteriaceae, including E. coli in this challenge was performed very well. Most laboratories are capable of identifying these strains from clinical specimens.
- There is some variability in measuring the clinical and infection control significance of these bacteria in clinical specimens.
