Sputum: normal flora – Companion to G162 – Shipped August 15, 2016
A simulated sputum sample collected from a 72 year old patient with suspected community acquired pneumonia (CAP) was sent to category A and B laboratories. Participants were expected to report normal flora.

- Identifying and reporting isolates which are known to be normal flora in sputum samples is discouraged.
