Participants were expected to report the presence of neutrophils and gram positive cocci.

MAIN EDUCATIONAL POINTS from GS172-2

  1. Joint infections are medical emergencies requiring prompt recognition and management to preserve joint integrity.
  2. A negative Gram stain has little predictive value to rule out infection, but a positive Gram stain is highly predictive of a positive culture.
