Oral/mouth swab: Candida dubliniensis – Shipped September 2011

HISTORY

This sample was sent as a simulated oral/mouth swab sample obtained from an AIDS patient. Laboratories were expected to isolate and identify Candida dubliniensis.

  • Correct identification of the Candida species is important because as it can be used as a guide to therapy.
  • C. dubliniensis isolates have been observed to rapidly develop resistance to fluconazole.
